Food Assistance

Students on the Health Sciences and Technology campus in Roanoke have access to several resources for food and financial assistance, both through the university and in the community.

Virginia Tech

If you are struggling with access to financial or food resources, Virginia Tech has several options to help meet your needs.

Student Emergency Fund

  • All students may request money from the Student Emergency Fund through the Dean of Students office.
  • Additionally, students struggling with access to food may request gift cards to area grocery stores from the Dean of Students office.

The Market of Virginia Tech

Students may also request to be part of the Market of Virginia Tech, a program which provides food assistance to students who have a hard time obtaining regular, healthy meals for whatever reason, such as a short-term disruption in finances, residing in a food desert, or a lack of access to other financial assistance. The Market will offer bags of seasonal produce and fruits; options for beef, poultry, and vegetarian protein; dairy items; dry-goods pantry stock items; and bonus treats. Each weekly bag will be enough for roughly seven days’ worth of meals.

Community Resources

Numerous organizations in the Roanoke region operate food distribution programs, including non-profits and faith-based organizations.
