Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Our scientists have crisscrossed the nation over the past few weeks, sharing their discoveries with the world’s leading authorities in neuroscience, cardiovascular, and cancer research.
More than 20 Fralin Biomedical Research Institute faculty, students, and fellows were prominent among thousands of neuroscientists from around the world at the Society for Neuroscience (SFN) 2022 annual meeting in San Diego. The SFN brings basic and translational researchers together with clinicians to debut new discoveries about the brain and nervous system.
Likewise, our scientists made an impact at the recent American Heart Association Scientific Session 2022 in Chicago, during which more than 15,000 experts from over 100 countries focused on cardiovascular research and clinical practice.
At our own labs in Washington, D.C., alongside our partners at Children’s National Hospital and Johnson & Johnson Innovation, we were thrilled to tell Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin about efforts to help ease the hardship of pediatric brain cancers through innovations in molecular medicine research. By working with world-class partners, including our collaborators at Carilion Clinic, we are making a difference.
As we close the year, we will continue our efforts to add to our talented faculty. We are currently recruiting scientists for faculty positions in Cancer Research, as well as in Exercise Medicine, Biomaterials and Body-Device Interfaces, and Developmental Neurobiology.
Yours truly in the spirit of Ut Prosim,
Michael J. Friedlander, Ph.D.
Executive Director, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC
Vice President for Health Sciences and Technology, Virginia Tech
Senior Dean for Research, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
Professor, Biological Sciences, Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and Affiliated Faculty, School of Biomedical Engineering and Science
