Virginia Tech graduate students help clean up Roanoke Greenway

The Virginia Tech Roanoke Graduate Student Association hosted a Roanoke River Greenway cleanup Saturday morning. Faculty, staff, and students from the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC have met every couple of months to collect plastic, trash, and debris from the riverbank. They adopted a .3-mile stretch of the greenway earlier this year. The goal is to protect the environment while promoting health and wellness.

"One of the things that attracted myself and most all of the other people that work here is the natural beauty of Roanoke and the Roanoke Valley and we feel that it's really important to keep it that way so we'd like to do what we can," Michael Friedlander, Vice President of Health Sciences at Virginia Tech, said.

They will be back cleaning the greenway in a few months.
