Dear friends and colleagues,
It was exciting to collaborate with Research!America at an event that drew elected officials, community leaders, university leaders and leaders of biotech and health care organizations from across the state and Washington, D.C., area.
Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley presented findings from a new public opinion survey of Virginians that indicates strong support for research and innovation, STEM education, and the infrastructures that support them. The results provided an affirmation that our work at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is valued and matches the objectives of the citizens of Virginia.
Mary Woolley is a long-time friend of students and faculty working in the biomedical research enterprise and a national advocate of “Winning Hearts and Minds for Science” – which was the title of her presentation here in 2018 at a Maury Strauss Distinguished Public Lecture.
Speaking of events, fellow scientists, students and anyone interested in the leading edge of brain research please make note of the Precision Neuroscience Conference at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center from May 25-26. The meeting represents a major assembly in Roanoke of some of the world's best scientists and leaders in mental health, brain cancer, neurodevelopment, aging, neurodegeneration, and brain injury research. No matter your field, you will find opportunities to learn and network with cutting edge scientists from across Virginia, the nation and also from colleagues from our Nordic partner countries.
Meanwhile, excitement continues to build for our Juneteenth celebration of Black scientists and engineers. We have assembled an array of researchers, educators, patient advocates and thought leaders, who will describe their career paths and research contributions in health sciences, the importance of embracing opportunities for underrepresented groups and the significance of Juneteenth. We look forward to seeing you there!

Yours truly in the spirit of Ut Prosim,
