Mary Baron
Mary Baron is a retired real estate agent, builder and developer. She founded her own building/development company in the late 70’s, paving the way for women in the field.
Mary and her husband George, a retired anesthesiologist, currently an assistant professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, divide their time between Roanoke and Naples, Fla.
The commitment to give back to her community allowed Mary to serve in leadership roles on numerous nonprofit boards including: Avow Hospice, The Shelter for Abused Women and Children, both board of directors and board of trustees, The Guadalupe Center, The Naples Players, Classic Chamber Concerts, The Marco Island Center for the Arts, The American Cancer Society and The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples. She is a founding member and chair of Collier Senior Resources and the Women’s Foundation of Collier County.
She has been honored for her work with the Woman of Initiative Award given by The Community Foundation of Collier County, The Spirit of Marco award given by the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce and The 25 over 50 award given by the Naples Daily News, among others.
She has been involved in the Taubman Museum of Art, the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, The Children’s Trust and the Roanoke Academy of Medicine Wives Alliance.
Mary was a Biochemistry major at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. She did arthritic and connective tissue research at Boston University Medical Center and was part of the team that developed the Lupus test. She managed hospital labs in New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Mary has three children and eight grandchildren. In her free time she enjoys flying, building and decorating houses, gardening and spending time with her family.
