Robert Hogan
Bob joined Milton Street founder and fellow Managing Director, Francis Carr, in early 2018. Milton Street is a lower middle market private equity firm focused on making majority investments in industrial manufacturing, distribution and service businesses. The firm targets “story” investments, or underperforming and resource constrained companies, which can benefit from Milton Street’s hands-on, partnering approach in driving significant value creation through strategic, commercial and operational improvement initiatives.
Bob previously served as the sole Operating Partner with The Sterling Group, an operationally focused middle market private equity firm operating in the industrial sector from 2014 to 2018. As operating partner, Bob was responsible for leading strategic, operational and commercial best practices and continuous improvement initiatives across the firm’s diverse portfolio. While at Sterling, Bob also served as the lead deal partner and Chairman of the Board for American Bath Group. During his tenure he also served on the board of Sterling Group portfolio companies CST Industries, Process Barron, Specified Air, and Time Manufacturing.
In 2012, Bob founded Hogan Ventures LLC, an executive-level consulting resource for expanding companies looking to take their next growth step. During this time Bob served as independent Chairman of the Board from 2013 until its recent sale in October 2018 for private equity-owned Radix Wire and Cable, a leading manufacturer of high temperature wire and cable for severe operating environments.
Bob served a significant portion of his career as President and Chief Executive Officer of AmerCable Incorporated from 1993 to 2012. Under Bob’s leadership, AmerCable grew from a small U.S. manufacturing company with an enterprise value of $27.5 million into a global leader in the mining, oil and gas, industrial, and renewable energy markets with an enterprise value of $275 million.
In June 2002 Mr. Hogan executed a management-led buyout of AmerCable in partnership with private equity firm Wingate Partners. Mr. Hogan and his management team subsequently partnered with Industrial Growth Partners in 2005 and then Quintana Energy Partners L.P. in 2007. These successful private equity recapitalizations of AmerCable delivered returns of 4x, 5x, and 1.8x, respectively, to its investors.
Prior to that, he served as Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary for AmerCable's parent company, Associated Materials Incorporated, in Dallas, Texas, from 1984 to 1993. Before joining Associated Materials Incorporated, Mr. Hogan was a Manager in the audit division of Ernst & Young LLP.
Bob holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in accounting from Virginia Tech University. He has been an active member of YPO/YPO Gold since 1995.
