J. David Wine

Advisory Board Member
J. David Wine

J. David Wine is the founder of Advanced Health-Care Services — a successful company selling in-home medical equipment. He sold his company in 1998 to a corporate buyer, and has since supported the Roanoke, Virginia, community through outstanding volunteer work with numerous local organizations.

Wine began his career in 1973 working in respiratory therapy at the Pulaski Community Hospital, as well as medical sales, before starting his own company — Advanced Health-Care Services.

He was a founding donor of Food For Thought: An Edible Education Partnership. The program is a collaboration of leaders from Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation, Roanoke City Public Schools, and the City of Roanoke. The program focuses on sustainable gardening, green lifestyle choices, the use of urban land for small-scale vegetable gardening, and careers in related fields.

In 2003, Wine purchased the prominent Fairacres residence in southwest Roanoke City to save it from probable demolition by developers. As an experienced preservationist, Wine was able to restore the home to its former splendor, while maintaining the original structure and layout. It is now considered a historical landmark of Roanoke.

Wine has served on many local boards and associations, including the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra Board, the Taubman Museum of Art Board, the Roanoke College Advisory Board, Hollins College Advisory Board, the Carilion Clinic Foundation Board, and the Virginia Western Education Foundation Board.

He received his associate’s degree from Virginia Western Community College, and was awarded the college’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014 for his successful career as an entrepreneur and community supporter.
