The work of the Purcell Lab, led by principle investigator Ryan Purcell, Ph.D., is aimed at understanding the neurobiology of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. Through CRISPR genome engineering and induced-pluripotent stem cell-based approaches such as forebrain organoids, his lab addresses this gap by identifying cellular and molecular phenotypes in risk gene models and investigating mechanisms. These approaches will improve understanding of risk variant pathobiology and may help to illuminate the neurobiology of complex conditions such as schizophrenia.
