The Center for Health Behaviors Research at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, located in Roanoke, is conducting a 4-week research study, Behavioral and Physiological Influences on Cognitive Processes, to investigate how foods we eat influence our brains.
Qualifications
- 18 to 45 years of age
- Willing to attend sessions at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute in Roanoke
- Do not have diagnosis of diabetes or other endocrine disorder
- Not currently taking mental health medications
- Not pregnant or planning to become pregnant during study participation
What is involved?
- Participants 18 to 45 years of age
- 3 in-person and 4 online sessions over 4 weeks (~10 hours total)
- Drinking sweetened drinks at specified times each week
- V blood draws
- functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) brain scan
What you will get
- Up to $345
- Health information, including:
- Hemoglobin A1C test results
- Fasting blood sugar results
- Body composition results
- An MRI picture of your brain

- 5 in-person and 3 online sessions over 5 weeks (~18 hours total)
- Drinking sweetened drinks at specified times each week
- Measurements of energy use (metabolic rate)
- IV blood draws
- MRI brain scan
What you will get
- Up to $340
- Health information, including:
- Hemoglobin A1C test results
- Fasting blood sugar results
- Metabolic rate test results
- An MRI picture of your brain
