Postdoctoral Associates
We value innovative and rigorous science in a friendly and fun environment. Postdocs will have access to all Virginia Tech and Children’s National Hospital Resources, core facilities, and seminars, and will be provided opportunities to grow and develop. They will also benefit from the rich scientific community in the Washington, D.C., area. Researchers interested in a postdoctoral position should include a cover letter summarizing your prior research experience and research interests, a CV, and contact information for at least three references. Graduate Students
Current graduate students can contact Dr. Mulvaney by email to set up a lab rotation. Apartment housing is available (provided by Virginia Tech) to you in Washington, D.C., within walking distance of the lab during your rotation. We look forward to discussing available research projects with you.
Prospective graduate students should plan to pursue a Masters, PhD., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or D.V.M. in one of the following programs at Virginia Tech:
· Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health
· M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
· D.V.M. or D.V.M./Ph.D. at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine
Research Associate
We are currently seeking to hire a motivated research associate/lab technician. We’re seeking someone who is enthusiastic about science, has excellent time management, and loves to learn. It is an ideal position for candidate(s) planning to stay in the lab for two or more years before leaving for M.D., Ph.D., or other training. RAs will contribute to publications and interesting projects in the group, and will have the opportunity to present and interact with scientists at all levels at Virginia Tech and Children’s National Hospital. Senior Scientist
We are seeking a research scientist to help develop and lead our exciting new cancer research group. This person will be both motivated to grow a research project of their own and to train and mentor young scientists within the group. The senior scientist will have access to all Virginia Tech and Children’s National Hospital Resources, core facilities, and seminars, and will be provided growth and development opportunities. Our team supports all career paths of scientists and will actively engage in efforts of networking, leadership course training, attending research conferences and other activities to support your career development. Candidates must hold a doctorate in a biology-related field with at least two years of postdoc experience. Excellent time management, laboratory documentation, scientific writing, and communication skills are required. Undergraduate Students
Prospective undergraduate students should email Dr. Mulvaney and include your name, year, type of position you are seeking (credit, paid summer research, paid semester research, externally paid summer research program such as REU), length of intended commitment in the lab, a statement of interest in one of our areas of research, and current CV/resume. Undergraduates from Virginia Tech and nearby Washington, D.C., universities are encouraged to apply.
Medical Students
Current Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine students are eligible for summer or short-term research experiences in the lab. Please reach out with your interest and to discuss exciting, translational projects. Apartment housing is available (provided by Virginia Tech) for you in Washington, D.C., within walking distance of the lab during your rotation in the lab.
Medical Fellows
Medical fellows affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine or Children’s National Hospital/George Washington University joint program who are interested in working in the lab or collaborating on clinical or pre-clinical projects should email Dr. Mulvaney.
Post-baccalaureate or Visiting Students
International graduate students interested in a short-term exchange program or visiting students from nearby schools who hold or are eligible for their own funding are encouraged to apply. Post-baccalaureate students from Virginia or other neighboring Washington, D.C., schools are welcome in our lab. We look forward to contributing to your scientific development.
