cardioSURF
American Heart Association and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship
Faculty Research Areas
As part of the application requirement, cardioSURF students must select a faculty mentor at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute affiliated with the program.
Scientists within the multidisciplinary environment at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute complement their research with state of the art technical approaches to answer biological questions. The diverse research community of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute provides not only a rich intellectual environment, but also the opportunity for hands-on experience in application of a broad complement of imaging technologies.
Each student will undertake an independent research project within the laboratory of a Fralin Biomedical Research Institute Center for Vascular and Heart Research faculty member whose research interests are listed below:
- John C. Chappell, Ph.D.
- Robert Gourdie, Ph.D.
- Scott Johnstone, Ph.D.
- Samy Lamouille, Ph.D.
- Jessica Pfleger, Ph.D.
- Steven Poelzing, Ph.D.
- Yassine Sassi, Ph.D.
- James Smyth, Ph.D. (cardioSURF Director)
- Junco Warren, Ph.D.
Note: With appropriate justification of interests and a project that aligns with the American Heart Association mission, a cardioSURF student may also work with a Fralin Biomedical Research Institute faculty member not affiliated with the Center for Vascular and Heart Research.
