Health Sciences and Technology Campus

Located in Roanoke, Virginia, the Virginia Tech Health Sciences and Technology Campus is an academic center that is made possible through the university's robust public-private partnership with Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech Carilion

  

The university operates two shuttles that connect the Virginia Tech Blacksburg campus with the Roanoke campus. Buses are equipped with WiFi. Click here to open the Roanoke to Blacksburg Campus Shuttle Schedule

The service is available on a first-come, first-served basis (at no cost) to anyone with a valid ID from Virginia Tech, Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, or Radford University Carilion.

During business hours, visitors may park in designated visitor parking places at the entrance to the parking garage at 2 Riverside Circle. Visitors may also park on the 2nd through 6th floors of the parking garage at 6 Riverside Circle. On nights and weekends, visitors may park anywhere in the 6 Riverside parking garage, as well as the surface lot and parking deck. All parking is free.

The City of Roanoke operates a bus service called the Starline Trolley, with stops on the Health Sciences and Technology campus. The trolley runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays with stops every 20 minutes along its route, which extends into South Roanoke and to Market Square downtown. 

Students, employees, the community, and guests of the Virginia Tech Carilion Health Sciences and Technology campus are encouraged to sign up for two emergency alert systems.

VTC Everbridge

The Carilion Clinic Police are the first responders for emergencies on our campus. The department uses the Everbridge emergency notification system to send emergency alerts.

Students, faculty, staff, family members, the community, and campus guests may enroll. Users can set preferences for alerts after creating an account.

 

VT Alerts

Virginia Tech also maintains its own emergency alert system, which covers events on the Health Sciences and Technology campus.  Options are available for students and faculty and vistors and community members.

Fralin Biomedical Research Institute Facilities

The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute operates in more than 260,000-square-feet of laboratory and teaching space on the Virginia Tech Health Sciences and Technology Campus in Roanoke, Virginia. The university has also laboratory space at the Children's National Research & Innovation Campus in Washington, D.C., and is home to the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute's Cancer Research Center — D.C.

This building, shared with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, includes the executive offices of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, wet and dry laboratories, classrooms, the Addiction Recovery Research Center; the Center for Human Neuroscience Research; the Center for Vascular and Heart Research; the Center for Neurobiology Research; the Neuromotor Research Clinic; the Computational Psychiatry Unit; and the Human Neuroimaging Laboratory.

The following Virginia Tech teams and centers are in 1 Riverside Circle: Health Sciences and Technology Leadership Team, Health Sciences and Technology Advancement Team, Human Magnetometry Laboratory, Virginia Tech Translational Biology, Medicine and Health Graduate Program Administration and Classrooms, the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute Center for Health Behaviors Research, and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and Health Sciences and Technology Finance and Grants Offices.

The 139,000-square-foot Fralin Biomedical Research Institute Addition at 4 Riverside Circle, which formally opened on Oct. 12, 2021, is a state-of-the-art research facility that houses the institute's Center for Exercise Medicine ResearchCancer Research Center — Roanoke; Focused Ultrasound Core; and Virginia Tech's Molecular Diagnostics Lab. It also includes classroom space, labs, and equipment dedicated to biomaterials and body-device interfaces, neuroscience, cardiovascular science, comparative oncology, infectious disease and immunity, and metabolism and obesity. The first floor also houses Carilion Clinic training space and the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center, part of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.

 

Quick Facts about 4 Riverside Circle

The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and Virginia Tech expanded research operations to the Children's National Research & Innovation Campus in Washington, D.C. The new laboratory space in D.C., which opened in 2021, is home to the Cancer Research Center — D.C. and Virginia Tech scientists who work alongside researchers and clinicians at Children's National and Johnson & Johnson's JLabs to develop new diagnostics and therapeutics to treat pediatric nervous system cancers.
