Timothy A. Johnson Medical Scholar Lecture: The Role of Lipids in Alcoholic Liver Disease Pathogenesis
About this Seminar
Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a major cause of chronic liver disease worldwide and its prevalence is increasing in young adults. Besides alcohol cessation, which is difficult to achieve in the majority of patients, there are no therapeutic options for ALD. ALD is a progressive metabolic disease with its earliest stage, that of steatosis, characterized by lipid dysregulation, lipid accumulation within lipid droplet organelles and the onset of insulin resistance. In her talk, Dr. Carr will elaborate upon the clinical disease of ALD and the role ceramides (bioactive lipids) play in disease onset and lipid droplet regulation.
