About this Seminar
Dr. Leiter will discuss the pathophysiological basis of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. He will discuss the pre- and postnatal factors that cause (in theory) the acquired neurophysiological abnormalities that promote the occurrence of reflex apneas in babies, which are common, and impair or limit recovery from apneas, which is a much rarer event. He will place the behaviors that contribute to SIDS in an evolutionary and developmental context.

This is a free event hosted by the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. The Timothy A. Johnson Medical Scholar Lecture Series hosts clinician scientists who are exploring frontiers of medicine. These lectures are principally intended for Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine students and Virginia Tech students in the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health graduate program.
