About this Seminar
Significant health disparities exist in rural and underserved communities. Rural areas have higher rates of chronic diseases and face many challenges, including transportation, connectivity, and isolation. Engaging these communities through collaborations between academic medical centers and community partner organizations is key to advancing health equity. Community Driven Research Days, Project ECHO, and other innovative and collaborative approaches to engagement can activate and give community partners a voice in addressing leading county health concerns in partnership with academic institutional strengths. Penn State CTSI’s goal is to provide the infrastructure for training, technical assistance, and facilitation of research collaborations and workforce development opportunities in an effort to guide rural communities in evidence-based, community-led health interventions within their identified health priority areas.

This is a free event hosted by the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. The Timothy A. Johnson Medical Scholar Lecture Series hosts clinician scientists who are exploring frontiers of medicine. These lectures are principally intended for Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine students and Virginia Tech students in the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health graduate program. Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic faculty, staff, and students may also attend.
