About this Seminar
Dr. Friedlander’s lab's recent work examined how the timing of electrical signals in the brain impact plasticity, influencing its ability to adapt after injury, as well as the crucial role calcium plays in our ability to learn and remember by regulating communication between nerve cells. Dr. Friedlander will share how these processes contribute to the brain’s ability to adapt and learn by tuning its own connections on the fly.

About Maury Strauss
Maury Strauss was a longtime community benefactor and businessman who supported biomedical research with the goal of energizing the local economy and improving quality of life in our neighborhoods and around the world. In order to ensure the continued success of Roanoke’s biomedical research enterprise, as well as the free public seminars, Mr. Strauss made a generous gift to the series. He passed away in June 2024 at age 99.
