About this Seminar
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer. Scientific advancements and improvements in care delivery have led to substantial decreasing incidence rates and death in colorectal cancer since the 1980s but disparities in health outcomes have persisted. There is a paucity of comprehensive and scalable evidence-based strategies for eliminating inequities. Attaining health equity is a national priority. This presentation will describe how research and programs have transformed the understanding of disparities in colorectal cancer with across the continuum of screening. The presentation will describe advocacy that built on scientific evidence for changes in policy, including coverage of screening and an administrative definition of screening.

This is a free event hosted by the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. The Timothy A. Johnson Medical Scholar Lecture Series hosts clinician scientists who are exploring frontiers of medicine. These lectures are principally intended for Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine students and Virginia Tech students in the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health graduate program. Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic faculty, staff, and students may also attend.
