Warren Bickel, a professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, was selected to give the opening keynote address at the 2015 annual meeting of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research. This year’s meeting is themed as, “From Ideas to Efficacy – New Frontiers in Basic to Clinical Translation.” Bickel’s presentation is titled, “A Transdiagnostic Approach to Preventing and Treating Behavioral Dysfunction.”

Bickel, director of the institute’s Addiction Recovery Research Center, has dedicated his professional life to carrying out research on how and why people make the choices that lead from addiction to recovery. The Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research recently recognized Bickel and his work by selecting him as a fellow. The organization, founded in 1978 by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, is an honorary society with a highly selective nomination process.
