A fall open house at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute’s Washington, D.C., campus welcomed students in the nation’s capital to the institute’s Cancer Research Center — D.C.

Undergraduate and graduate students from neighboring universities were invited to explore research opportunities at the center. Academic Success Coordinator Michele Hosey designed the program to introduce current teams to prospective researchers.

“Connection is what leads to collaboration. We asked ourselves, ‘Is there a way for us to better connect with the other universities near us?’” said Christopher Hourigan, founding director of the Cancer Research Center in D.C. and professor at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute. “Once we had identified that need, Michele took the initiative to develop the idea.”

A number of primary faculty have open positions at their labs at the institute’s Washington, D.C., location on the Children’s National Research and Innovation Campus. These principal investigators regularly welcome graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and research assistants to their labs.
