The Green Labs Program at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC hosted its second annual Earth Day event in April, drawing some 200 visitors for fun, giveaways, and information on operating an Earth-friendly lab.
Highlights this year included:
- A plant and seed giveaway sponsored by the Green Labs Team and Roanoke VT Women Connect
- Green Lab member recruitment and information tables
- Pizza provided by lab supply vendors ThermoFisher Scientific and Corning, who also displayed their sustainable products
- Booths from five local green non-profit organizations who shared information and sought funds and volunteers: Restoration Housing, Friends of the Blue Ridge, Trees Roanoke, Virginia Master Naturalists, and the Clean Valley Council.
The Green Labs Program was founded by members of research institute labs to promote sustainable lab practices. The program supports a range of recycling opportunities on the research institute campus and shares information on responsible energy use, sustainable purchasing, and green lab certification.
