Are our political views biologically determined? In a BBC Radio feature today, neuroscientist Read Montague discussed his research using functional magnetic resonance imaging to examine correlations between responses to disgusting images and political leanings.

Based on data from identical and fraternal twins, he and collaborators believe politics may be 30 to 40 percent inheritable.

Montague, a professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, is principally known for pioneering the fields of neuromarketing and computational psychiatry.
